| Good news for lazy depressed people (i.e. me) |
| The natural "high" produced by exercise could one day be available in a pill that targets a gene in our brains. Exercise certainly does help depression, but what is needed is an incentive for me to get off my fat bottom and take my muddy dogs out in the rain. What "scientists at Yale" really ought to be working on is a sharp pokey stick to get me out of bed in the morning. |

I always thought that it was endorphins, natures little heroin substitutes, that were generated by exercise. Exercise does work for me, but only because it is less depressing to go out for a walk with a retriever than to come down from the office and find that it has chewed up all the furniture because it is bored.
